Robert Nippoldt's Award-Winning Ode to the Roaring Twenties in Berlin

Immerse in the Golden Era of Berlin through Nippoldt's Unique Blend of Illustrations, Facts, and Music

Robert Nippoldt, a renowned illustrator, has created a masterpiece that transports readers back to the golden era of Berlin in the 1920s. His book, "Night Falls on the Berlin of the Roaring Twenties," is a unique blend of illustrations, facts, anecdotes, and original recordings that earned him the prestigious Platinum A' Print and Published Media Design Award in 2019.

Robert Nippoldt's love for the era of the golden twenties, Berlin, German history, music, film, pen-and-ink-drawings, and typography inspired him to create this bibliophile, fully-illustrated book. It presents five dozen leading lights from Berlin's entertainment industry, as well as the artistic, literary, cinematographic, and political scene during the Weimar Republic. The book's design, typography, and the accompanying CD form a graphic and multi-sensual unit, setting it apart from other works.

The book was realized using pen-and-ink-drawings and infographics, and is presented as a hardcover that includes a CD of original recordings. Measuring 23.5 x 37 cm, it spans 224 pages of immersive content. The book is designed to reflect various facets of Berlin's (night) life in the confused time of the Weimar Republic, with many details meticulously researched from original books, posters, and writings from the twenties.

The project, which started in 2012 in Münster, Germany, took over five years to complete. Nippoldt faced several challenges during the creation of the book, including managing the project mostly on his own, finding a suitable author and publisher, and obtaining picture rights and music rights for the contained CD. Despite these challenges, he successfully completed the project in December 2017.

The book is illustrated and designed in the style of illuminated advertising, billboards, old movies, and movie posters, translating musical and cinematic elements into its medium. It is intended for interested readers of beautiful books, allowing them to immerse themselves in the roaring time of the twenties.

Robert Nippoldt's "Night Falls on the Berlin of the Roaring Twenties" is more than just a book; it's a journey back in time to an era of glamour and decadence. It's a testament to Nippoldt's dedication and passion for the subject, and a deserving winner of the Platinum A' Print and Published Media Design Award in 2019.
